Medical examinations in occupational pathology: difficulties, problems, prospects

On May 22, the Russian Scientific Conference “Medical examinations in occupational pathology: difficulties, problems, prospects” was held, the purpose of which was to introduce modern approaches to conducting medical examinations into the clinical practice of doctors to increase the efficiency of detection, diagnosis, examination of the relationship of the disease with the profession, and conduct of examination professional suitability of employees.
The organizers of the event were OSMU, the Ministry of Health of the Omsk Region, and the Clinical Medical Unit No. 7. Online form of the Conference allowed to gather researches from Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Vladivostok, Samara, Barnaul, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo and Omsk.
In the plenary part of the meeting, OSMU was represented by Prof. Vladimir L. STASENKO, MD, PhD, Dean of the Preventive Medicine Faculty, Head of Department of Epidemiology. Together with Marina A. VAITOVICH, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of the Epidemiology Department, Olga A. MIKHAILOVA, Head of the Epidemiological Surveillance Department of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Omsk Region, and Alexandra Ya. NEDASHKOVSKAYA, Head of the Epidemiological Surveillance Department, he presented the report “Employee Infection in the conditions of professional activity: epidemiological features of the investigation of a case of occupational infectious disease.” The material was aimed at familiarizing students with the organization of an epidemiological investigation of an infectious disease associated with professional activities.
The second part of the Conference was held in the format of a symposium and was devoted to the issues of conducting medical occupational pathological examinations for various diseases. In this part of the event, OSMU scientists presented three reports.
One of them was prepared by Assoc. Prof. Olga V. PLOTNIKOVA, MD, PhD, Head of the Occupational Health Department. She spoke about modern approaches to the examination of professional suitability of persons entering higher and secondary vocational education institutions, provided information on the organization and legal regulation of preliminary medical examinations of adolescents and young people upon admission to study, and highlighted the main problems of examination of the professional suitability of adolescents upon admission to study and in the process of obtaining a profession.
In Another report of Prof. Olga V. PLOTNIKOVA, prepared in association with Oleg A. Savchenko, MD, PhD, leading researcher at the Novosibirsk Research Institute of Hygiene of Rospotrebnadzor, she assessed the risks of premature aging of the body under the influence of occupational factors.
Elena V. USACHEVA, MD, PhD, Assoc. Prof. of Department of Internal and Family Medicine, including Postgraduate Training Course, presented a report on the topic “Interstitial pulmonary fibrosis: from a pulmonologist to an occupational pathologist,” in which she examined the problems of diagnosis, features of the course, rate of progression and pharmacotherapy of ILD.
The Conference ended with summing up the results of the clinical case study competition, with the presentation of the analysis of clinical cases of the winner and prize-winners of the competition.
